Amazon Creator API Credentials
The WP Wolfborn Loot plugin technically works without an Amazon API key, but you’ll miss out on about 90% of its functionality. Without one, you’re limited to inserting custom products. So getting an API key is pretty much essential.
The good news is it’s free. You just head over to Amazon’s Creator API section and generate one. But here’s the catch: your Amazon Associates account needs at least 10 individual orders in the past 30 days before your API requests will actually work. Keep in mind that a single order with multiple items only counts as one order.
Once you generate your key, write down the credentials immediately. Amazon won’t show them to you again. If you lose them, you’ll have to delete the key and create a new one.
Now, there’s something really important to understand. The API key and the 10-order requirement are both marketplace specific. The link above is for Amazon’s USA marketplace. If you plan on working with a different Amazon marketplace (UK, Germany, Japan, etc.), you’ll need to:
- Register for an Amazon Associates account on that country’s marketplace;
- Hit 10 orders in 30 days on that specific marketplace (and this threshold resets every 30 days); and
- Generate a separate Creator API key for that marketplace.
One last thing. This plugin only works with one Amazon marketplace at a time. When you install it on a WordPress site, you pick one and that’s what it uses. That said, there are third-party tools that dynamically swap Amazon links to make them geo-specific, and many of them work alongside this plugin.
